Studies on the Basal Metabolism of Korean military persons (Report ¥²)

Abstract
In the Preceding reports, the author had reported that the basal metabolic rate of military men were higher than the American values reported by Mayo clinic and Japanese standard value of the same age groups.
This study for normal civilian groups (106men and 92women), has been4 carried out, x a control of military men, from may to December 1956.
The result are given in table 1-6.
The average basal metabolic rate calories per hour per square meter body surface of
college students(54men) college girls(74men), miner(40men and 10womena) sports en(12men) and nurses(Sgirls) were 39.08; 33.92; 39.42; 35.71; 46.10; and 33.72 calories ks pectively.
These value are lower than average of military men expect that of sports men.
It was found ¢¥that basal metabolism was correlated more to body strength than body structure.
College students-rate is located between the standard value of American reported by Mayo Clinic and Japanese standard rate, but girls rate is closed to Japanese rate of the same age range,
The daily Caloric consumption of the boys and girls students were 2385 Calories and 2097 Calories and their daily Caloric in take were 2522 Calories and 1970 Calories.
The basal metabolic rate of men in the miner group was about 10 percent higher khan that of women but in student group male was about 15 percent higher than that Of female.
Such high difference between college boys and girls, might be due to under nutritional condition of college girls.
The basal metabolic rate of Premenstrual period was 2 percent higher than that of ostmenstrual period.
The basal metabolic rate of about 50 percent of the subjects were with in the range.
